PAUL W. JONES IS US AMBASSADOR TO MALAYSIA ON SEPT 14




KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- US Ambassador-Designate to Malaysia Paul
W. Jones will report for duty on Sept 14.

He was sworn in by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton as the
ambassador Wednesday, after nomination by President Barack Obama on July 12, and
confirmed by the US Senate on Aug 5.

According to a statement from the US Embassy here, Jones' most recent
position was Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan and
concurrently, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.

He has served in a variety of challenging assignments in Asia, Europe and
Latin America.

From September 2005 to February last year, he served as Deputy Chief of
Mission and Charge d'Affairs in the Philippines, coordinating 30 US government
agencies to implement counter-terrorism, poverty reduction and business
development programmes.

Jones graduated from Cornell University and received master's degrees from
University of Virginia and the Naval War College, and was a graduate of the
State Department's Senior Seminar.

Among the awards he has received were the Presidential Meritorious Service
Award, the Robert C. Frasure Memorial Award for peace building and Superior
Honor Awards.

Married to Catherine Jones, they have two children.
