Helmetless motorcyclists to face tough measures soon

VIENTIANE,SEPT.09 (KPL) - Traffic police would take tough measures against motorcyclists who do not wear helmets, who do not have vehicle licence and whose vehicles do not have any license plate.
Captain Sangkhom Phommalad, Deputy Director of the Information Service of the Vientiane Traffic Police Force, said “The traffic police would start taking such measures on 13 September 2010 in line with the Prime Minister’s decree No 188”.
Capt. Sangkhom continued that the traffic police decided to take such tough measures because there had been a sharp increase in serious injuries and deaths toll of motorcyclists who happened to be involved in road accidents and their injuries would have been less severe and fewer of them would have died, if only they had worn helmets.
Capt. Sangkhom urged parents to get their offspring wear helmets for their own personal safety when they ride motorcycles.
