WB donates US$40 million to Laos

(KPL) - The World Bank has decided to provide US$ 40 million for Laos to support her poverty reduction efforts and socio-economic development.

The assistance will go to the tax and trade facilitation project in an amount of US$ 6 million, Khammouane infrastructure development project in a sum of US$ 9 million and the poverty reduction fund with US$ 19 million.

The agreement of grant provision was signed last week in Vientiane, by Deputy Minister of Finance, Mrs Viengthong Siphandone, and the World Bank Country Director in Laos, Mr Ian Porter, among the witness of Minister of Finance, Mr. Somdy Duangdy.

This grant aid is too significant to Laos since it helps enhance thecooperation between Laos and the international donator countries, said Mrs. Viengthong. She also urges beneficial sectors to pay attention to the efficiency of the grant.
