GCAA reveals a new investigation details regarding the crash of UPS Boeing 747 - 400 Cargo
Dubai, Sept 15. 2010 (WAM)- The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) revealed yesterday new details regarding the UPS Boeing 747 - 400 Cargo crash on 3rd of September.
The Investigation of the accident which leads by the GCAA Investigation team is still ongoing with collecting more evidences from the accident site and through downloading the flight recorders from the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CRV) (known as black boxes).
The two boxes were shipped to the USA National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on Friday 10th September, under the custody and supervision of GCAA investigators, and they were successfully downloaded and still under thorough technical analysis.
The initial analysis of the downloaded data indicated that there was a fire warning followed by smoke in the cockpit as reported by the crew about 28 minutes from takeoff.
The crew were offered by Bahrain Air Traffic Control to land at Doha, but they decided to return back to Dubai, then they experienced cockpit visibility and commutation problems. Later on the crew declared Mayday (a known call used to declare that aircraft is in distress). The Captain was in control up to the end of the recording.
Eng. Ismaeil Abdel Wahed, leader of GCAA investigation team, revealed that the investigation shall continue until the cause of the accident is determined. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
