TD CARS SIGNS AGREEMENT TO EXPORT TD2000 CLASSIC CAR TO THAILAND
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- TD Cars (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has chosen
Thailand as the latest export destination for its Malaysian-made TD2000 classic
car.
The company recently signed an agreement with Tycoon Car Co Ltd, which has
been appointed as the Thai distributor.
TD Cars' managing director Edward Teo said Thailand was the 15th export
destination for the TD2000, which is assembled by Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional
Sdn Bhd (Proton).
"Our Malaysian-made car has successfully sparked interest among people from
all over the world and we are excited at this opportunity to share our concept
of classic open-top driving in Thailand," he said in a statement Wednesday.
Tycoon Car's chairman Nontapak Sucher said the company aimed to sell 20 or
more units of the TD2000 within the first year of its introduction scheduled in
December 2010.
"With a combination of timeless elegance, modern technology, performance and
reliability, the TD2000 is a classic that restores the romance of a bygone era,"
he said.
The TD2000 is equipped with a 1,988cc, twin-cam, 130 brake horsepower (bhp),
fuel-injected engine and five-speed manual or automatic transmission plus disc
brakes on all wheels.
The TD2000 Roadster was developed by an Australian company, Westmex Ltd, and
made its debut at the Melbourne Motor Show in 1989.
In 1998, a Malaysian consortium led by Teo bought the manufacturing and
intellectual rights and began commercial production of the reengineered TD2000
in April 2000 in Malaysia.
