MMEA DETAINS NINE VIETNAMESE FISHING BOATS
KUALA TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia), Sept 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian
Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained nine Vietnamese boats with 95 crew,
including the skippers, for conducting illegal fishing activities in Malaysian
waters during the last fasting month.
Its East Region operations director, Maritime Commander Syed Mohd Fuzi Syed
Hasan, said two of the boats were caught fishing in waters off Terengganu and
the remaining in waters of Kelantan.
The boats were detained in several operations carried out between Aug 11 and 27,
he told Bernama when contacted here Thursday.
He said the agency also detained three local fishing boats during the period for
violating regulations, including for employing foreign workers without permit.
