CARRY OUT DUTIES ACCORDING TO THE LAW, IGP REMINDS POLICEMEN

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia) Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ismail Omar Friday reminded all his officers
and men to carry out their duties according to the law.

He said this was important to ensure they did not overstep boundaries as
this could tarnish the image of the police in the eyes of the people.

"I want all police officers and those in the rank and file to discharge
their duties according to the law to upkeep the image of policing," he told
reporters after making his first visit to the Sabah state police headquarters
here since taking over as the new IGP on Monday.

He said efficiency when carrying out duties or operations was also important
when bringing criminals to book.

On commercial crime cases and drug trafficking, he said he hoped his men
would be able to solve these in the shortest possible time so that the people
involved would be made to face the music.

Ismail also said the force would be beefed up with additional personnel over
the next five years to further improve its delivery system.

On other matters, he said police would also tighten security along the
country's coasts and at outlying islands to prevent any encroachment.

This would also involve collaboration from the security forces of the
country and those of neighbours, he added.
