Russia-Ukraine summit to begin with motor rally.

MOSCOW, September 17 (Itar-Tass) -- A new Russia-Ukraine two-day
summit will begin with a motor rally on Friday that will cross the border
between the two countries to help Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor
Yanukovich simplify border crossing formalities for their citizens.
The event marks the centennial of the first St. Petersburg - Kiev
rally for the prize of Tsar Nicholas the Second.
The two presidents will meet in Russia's Bryansk region close to the
border and will travel 60 kilometers to the Ukrainian city of Glukhov.
Medvedev will drive his vintage Pobeda car produced in the Soviet Union in
1948 while Yanukovich will be at the wheel of Ukrainian-made LuAZ vehicle.
The two presidents will inspect border crossing formalities at Troebortnoe
checkpoint.
A Kremlin official said simplification of border, customs, and
immigration formalities will be discussed in Glukhov from where Medvedev
and Yanukovich will travel to the countryside residence of the Russian
leader in Zavidovo, 100 kilometers northwest of Moscow.
The Kremlin official said the presidents will discuss cooperation in
the fuel and energy complex, science and technology, as well as joint
aircraft projects.
"Major attention will be paid to the integration of nuclear power
complexes of Russia and Ukraine," he added.
Medvedev and Yanukovich will also discuss additional agreements
related to the extended lease of the Crimean naval base for the Russian
Black Sea fleet.
They will also consider a transport route across the Kerch Strait
which divides the two countries in the Sea of Azov.
Since Yanukovich replaced pro-western Viktor Yushchenko this year
bilateral trade turnover has nearly doubled in January-June 2010 against
the same period in 2009 and comprised 15.9 billion dollars.
"The atmosphere in Russian-Ukrainian relationship has radically
changed. Bilateral relations have not only returned to the natural
friendly and goo-neighborly course, but are acquiring a new quality and
confirm the strategic character of our relations," the Kremlin official
said.
