KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB) will hold
a 'Malaysia Cocoa & Chocolate Day 2010' next month to provide information and
promote cocoa products.

The programme, which will start from Oct 15-17 at the Mid Valley Exhibition
Centre, is also held in conjunction with World Cocoa Day.

MCB director-general, Dr Azhar Ismail, the programme was an on-going
effort to promote the cocoa industry, especially the downstream sector.

"The local cocoa industry has recorded rapid growth and the quality of the
cocoa products have improved in line with the objective to turn the country into
'King of Chocolate in Asia'.

"The programme will also offer opportunities to local entrepreneurs
interested to get involved in chocolate products industry which has shown great
potential in the market," he told Bernama.

Azhar said the programme also offered opportunities for the entrepreneurs to
get involved in other sectors as suppliers of raw materials, machinery and
equipment and tourism.

He said revenue from cocoa and cocoa product exports fell to RM3.2 billion
(US$1.03 billion) last year compared with RM3.4 billion (US$1.09 billion) in
2008.

He said the board expected the programme to attract 50,000 visitors.

"There will be 64 booths and an MCB pavilion. The companies participating
include manufacturers of chocolate products, confectionary, suppliers of
materials and equipment and materials for cocoa cultivation," he said.
