CARRY ON "OPEN HOUSE" TRADITION TO FOSTER UNITY, SAYS M'SIAN PM NAJIB
PEKAN (Pahang, Malaysia), Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak
Saturday hosted an Aidilfitri "open house" in his Pekan constituency, and called
on Malaysians to carry on the open house tradition to forge greater
understanding, harmony and mutual respect in the multi-ethnic population.
"If we hold open house and receive guests regardless of race and religion,
it will be a meaningful avenue to foster national unity founded on the 1Malaysia
concept," he said.
The prime minister said an open house would be more meaningful if "we also
open our hearts to our guests".
Najib, who is also United Malays National Organisation (Umno) president,
reminded Umno leaders to remain humble and treat the people well when they came
to them in both good times and bad.
"If we are on the right track and uphold the 1Malaysia concept, I believe
the people will surely extend their support to us, especially at the time when
we need it," he said.
Najib and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, played host to more than 50,000 people
who thronged the open house from 10am to extend Aidilfitri greetings and partake
in the food served at almost 100 stalls.
The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah; the Sultanah of Pahang, Sultanah
Kalsom, and Pahang Crown Prince, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, attended the
open house.
Also present were Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister
Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Pekan Umno Division deputy head Ishak Muhamad and heads of
government departments.
The guests were entertained to songs by several artistes.
