Pak flays India over J&K violence

Islamabad, Sep 18 (PTI) Pakistan again criticised the
handling of protests northern Indian state of Jammu and
Kashmir, saying India should introspect on its policies
instead of blaming Islamabad for the violence in the valley.
Reacting to India’s rejection of concerns expressed by
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the situation in
Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesman Abdul
Basit Saturday said India "should adhere to accepted human
rights standards rather than stereotypically blaming
Pakistan".
Jammu and Kashmir is an "international dispute" and
the "subject of several UN Security Council resolutions", he
said.
"Instead of stereotypically blaming Pakistan, India
should undertake serious introspection of its policies that
are in sharp variance to its international commitments,
including adherence to accepted human rights standards," Basit
said.
India had Friday rejected Qureshi's "gratuitous
statements" on Jammu and Kashmir, saying they amounted to
interference in the country’s internal affairs.
Vishnu Prakash, the Indian External Affairs Ministry
spokesman, had said Pakistan should take "credible and
effective action against infiltration from across the Line of
Control and dismantle the terror infrastructure that exists in
the territory under its control". PTI RHL
