TWO TOURISTS INJURED IN DELHI SHOOT-OUT

NEW DELHI, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Two Taiwanese tourists were injured on Sunday
morning, when unidentified gunmen opened fire near the main city mosque, forcing
police to beef up security in the capital.
The two assailants on a motorcycle were reported to have shot at a tourist bus
parked in the popular city area and escaped in the rain, according to
eyewitnesses.
The tourists, one wounded in the head and another in the body are
being treated at a local hospital and said to be in stable condition.
"They (suspects) were wearing helmets and raincoats and fired
indiscriminately using .38 calibre bullets.
"They were wearing raincoats and helmets. A Red Alert has been issued in Delhi,"
Delhi Joint Commissioner of Police Karnail Singh told the media.
Police have yet to ascertain the cause of the shooting, which had occurred just
days before Delhi was to host the mega Commonwealth Games, slated from Oct 3 to
14.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, speaking to a local television channel,
assured that security would be heightened in the city and urged people not to
panic.
