RISE IN HOMESTAY TOURIST ARRIVALS

KEPALA BATAS (Kedah, Malaysia), Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Visitor arrivals in
homestay sector increased by 14.3 per cent to 88,666 between January and June
this year compared to the corresponding period last year.

Tourism Ministry deputy secretary-general Ab Ghaffar A Tambi said the revenue
derived from homestay increased to RM5.1 million in the first six months of this
year compared to RM5.04 million in the corresponding period last year.

Of the travellers, 65,361 were domestic visitors and 23,305 foreign
tourists, he said when launching a homestay Aidilfitri (eid) programme here Sunday.

The northern state of Penang, Ab Ghaffar said it received 1,331 homestay
visitors who spent RM101,129 between January and June this year.
