Patriarch Kirill to visit Sakhalin as part of Far Eastern tour.
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - Patriarch of Moscow and
All Russia Kirill will arrive in Sakhalin Island on Monday for a three-day
visit. He will pay a visit to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the town of Korsakov and
the Moniron Island.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church will consecrate a church of
Alexander Nevsky and open a religious educational centre in
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the administrative centre of the Sakhalin region.
The patriarch will also lead services in various churches and
monasteries across Sakhalin.
The Sakhalin region is located on 59 islands and has 45 dioceses.
Sakhalin is the second leg of Patriarch Kirill's 12-day tour of the
Far East. He's spent four days on Kamchatka Peninsula, visited the Koryak
village of Palana and an Aleutian settlement on the Commander Islands.
Yakutia will be the patriarch's next stop.
. Putin continues tour of St Petersburg & Leningrad region.
ST. PETERSBURG, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Prime Minister
Vladimir Putin continues his tour of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad
region. His trip will last until September 22.
Putin will stay in the Leningrad region on Monday.
On Tuesday, Putin will hold a conference on automobile construction
and will attend the ceremonies of launching automobile plants 'Hyundai
Motor Manufacturing Rus' and 'Magna St. Petersburg.'
The Russian government press service reports that one of the main
tasks of this conference is to consult companies manufacturing cars and
spare parts, listen to their wishes and eventually add additional impetus
to the localization of automobile productions.
The conference will be attended by Viktor Khristenko, the head of the
Ministry of Industry and Commerce, representatives of Russian ministries
and agencies, the heads of the biggest Russian automobile plants as well
as employees of foreign companies that operate in Russia.
Almost all the leading world car manufacturers have come to the
Russian market over the past ten years. The aggregate volume of
investments in automobile projects is estimated at six bln 883 million
dollars (without foreign investments in Avtovaz). Fifty-one thousand new
jobs have been created. The entire industry underwent significant
renovation.
At the moment, there are plans to also attract producers of car spare
parts to Russia. All present-day investment agreements contain a
condition for gradual localization of production.
The construction of the Magna plant that will manufacture car
components symbolizes the beginning of local production of spare parts for
foreign automobile plants operating in Russia.
The Hyundai Motor launched the construction of its plant in St.
Petersburg in June 2008.
This enterprise will be the first full-cycle foreign automobile plant
in Russia.
On Wednesday, Vladimir Putin will visit the Federal Centre of Heart,
Blood and Endocrinology named after V. Almazov. At present, it's
considered to be Russia's leading medical institution to develop new
medical technologies designed to modernize public health care.
Putin will also visit the Russian Scientific Centre of Radiology and
Surgical Technologies that annually performs over 100 operations,
including on cancer. The centre also implements Russian and international
projects in nuclear medicine.
. St Petersburg to host European medical forum.
ST.PETERSBURG, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - A forum of medical
associations of Europe and the European bureau of the World Health
Organization (WHO) is opening here on Monday.
More than forty national medical organizations from 30 European
countries, the delegates from WHO and European international
organizations, representatives of Russia's state public health bodies,
research institutes, public and professional medicinal organizations have
confirmed their participation in the forum.
Professor Yuri Shcherbuk, the chairman of the public health committee
of the St. Petersburg city government, said that the forum's key task was
to discuss priorities in the sphere of health protection jointly with WHO
experts and the heads of national medical organizations of European
countries.
The fact that St. Petersburg is hosting the European forum of medical
associations is a tribute to the achievements of the Russian health care
system. Shcherbuk believes that it will contribute to improving Russia's
international image and its integration with the European public health
system.
