ASTNA, September 19 (Itar-Tass) - Kazakh Minister for Emergencies
Vladimir Bozhko inspected this week readiness of the ministry's
subdivisions for ensuring security at the OSCE summit to be staged here in
December as well as at the seventh Winter Asian Games in 2011.
"Very much attention is given to all measures on ensuring security.
This is attributed to the fact that on instructions from the prime
minister, the Finance Ministry appropriated additional funds for equipping
medical establishments, Interior Ministry units as well as firefighters
and rescue squads of the Ministry for Emergencies. We shall purchase for
the summit additional communication systems and equipment, which will
improve our readiness for ensuring fire safety and efficient work of
rescue squads," the minister said in an interview with reporters.
In turn, director of the emergencies department of the ministry
Kikhanbek Satylganov specified that over two million US dollars were
appropriated to reinforce the material and technical facilities of the
ministry's divisions, participating in ensuring security at the OSCE
summit and the Asian Games.
A total of 1,439 people of the ministry's personnel and 213 units of
machinery were involved in a past training session. According to a planned
scenario, 20 people turned to be under the debris of the Astana Palace of
Independence as a result of an emergency situation. The minister specified
at the same time that a head of state could not happen to be under the
debris according to the planned scenario.
"According to the scenario, there should not be any president under
debris, since all of them are under protection of their own special
services, and it is self-understood that these special services would do
their best for presidents to escape such situations both at the Palace of
Independence and other facilities," Bozhko explained.
The heads of state and government from 56 member countries and 12 OSCE
partner countries as well as heads of 68 international organisations will
arrive in Astana for the OSCE summit on December 1-2.
