MORE PROGRAMMES IN STORE FOR PEOPLE, SAYS PM
SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak said the
government would implement more programmes for the people soon.
"We will prepare a national budget that will spur growth and enable the
government to carry out more people-centred programmes," he said at a Hari Raya
(celebration to mark the end of Ramadan month) gathering with the people at
Dewan Alamanda in Section 20, here, Monday night.
The function, attended by about 10,000 people, was organised by the Selangor
Umno Liaison Committee.
The prime minister said whenever he talked about "1Malaysia: People First,
Performance Now", he would also mention that the government would fulfil its
promises to the people.
"I will go down to the ground in Selangor, perhaps not to every place, but God
willing, with Noh (Noh Omar) and other Umno leaders, past and present, to
implement more progammes for the people soonest possible."
Najib said the people would be able to see what the government could do in the
programmes to be announced soon.
On Monday's open house, Najib said it symbolised openness which could bring
about greater unity as "the host is just not just opening his house to visitors
but his heart as well".
He said openness must be used as an approach by a political party like Umno
because openness encouraged the search for new ideas and methods in the party's
struggle.
"We should not rely on old thinking and methods, but Umno and Barisan Nasional
must be seen as progressive and dynamic, and struggling for what is best for the
people.
"We must not be seen as a party capable of using only old methods and
approaches. We must instead refresh our image by using the best means and
techniques," he said.
Najib hoped the Umno divisional leaders in Selangor and at other levels would
demonstrate that they were prepared to change for the better as changing for the
better showed their commitment to the people.
"Insya Allah (God willing), if we are brave and willng to change, we will win
back the people's trust in us," he said.
The prime minister said the people could now see all the happenings in the
opposition parties. "Let them feel the heat and turmoil with the accusations and
counter-accusations thrown at each other.
"If previously, they were always hitting out at us, now they are fighting among
themselves."
