By Mahanum Abdul Aziz
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- About 500 delegates from more than 20
countries are expected to attend the Ninth Asian Forum on Corporate Social
Responsibility (AFCSR) 2010 to be held here on Oct 21 and 22.
Felipe B. Alfonso, executive advisor of the Asian Institute of Management Ramon
V. Del Rosario Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (AIM-RVR Center),
said about 50 international speakers are expected to participate in the largest
and most significant conference on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in
Asia.
He said the conference will co-chair by AIM governors Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid,
Dr Lin See Yan, and Ramon R. del Rosario Jr.
"This year's theme is improving business competitiveness through CSR," he told
Bernama in an interview on Monday.
Alfonso said this year's conference will feature the integration of plenary
sessions, special interest sessions that focus on specific dynamics, learning
and best practices of companies, an expo featuring specific company CSR
programme and optional field visits to innovative CSR programme sites in and
around Kuala Lumpur.
He also said that AFCSR 2010 will be unique as it is dedicated to the late
Ismail Ali, a highly ethical and values-driven banker and corporate leader, who
was a founding member of the Asian Institute of Management's board of governors.
"It is a tribute from the institute and Kelab AIM Malaysia to honour (Tun)
Ismail for promoting excellence in Asian management practices and leadership in
banking and government-linked companies," he said.
Alfonso said this year's conference at the Crowne Plaza Mutiara will also see
presentation of the prestigious Asian CSR Awards to Asian companies for
outstanding, innovative and world-class CSR products, services, projects and
programmes in categories such as environmental excellence, support and
improvement of education, poverty alleviation, best workplace practices and
concern for health.
The principal host of AFCSR 2010 is AIM-RVR Center with German Technical
Cooperation (GTZ) and Intel as strategic partners, in collaboration with Kelab
AIM Malaysia and the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Centre for Sustainable
Development and Corporate Social Responsibility.
