IT-EXPORTS
Chandigarh, Sep 21 (PTI) IT exports from North Indian
state of Punjab and Chandigarh would touch Rs 5,000 crore by
2020, said Software Technology Park of India (STPI) Mohali
Joint Director and Center Head Ajay P Shrivastava.
IT export reached Rs 1,196 crore in 2009-10 and it is
expected that it would reach Rs 1,400 crore in the current
fiscal, he said in a release.
Started in the year 1998 with barely four companies and a
manpower of approximately 50 people, STPI Mohali today has
over 150 actively operating companies registered with it and
provides direct employment to over 12,000 people.
The region is the most promising IT hub in the country,
especially with the highly proactive governments and the
evolving ecosystem, he stated.
"With the availability of newer technologies in the
market like Web 2.0 and 3G mobile applications, combined with
the natural entrepreneurship of the local residents, fresh and
innovative solutions and products will be developed creating
new business opportunities both in domestic as well as
global markets," said Shrivastava. PTI CHS
