POLICE MEDIA CENTRE TO OVERCOME PROBLEMS IN MEDIA REPORTING
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police on Tuesday launched
its media centre in efforts to overcome problems and misunderstandings
pertaining to news reports on criminal cases throughout the country.
Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said with the setting up of the media
centre that handled the police official website and Facebook, media
practitioners could cooperate with the police in channelling news that were
accurate, valid, true and quick to the community.
"Through the media centre, I believe the media and police can cooperate in
sending out news in a transparent manner that is not subjected to whatever
problems that may arise between the media and the police," he said in his speech
at the launching of the Police Media Centre by the Home Minister, Hishammuddin
Hussein at Bukit Aman (Police Headquarters), here.
He said the setting up of the media centre also reflected that the police force
was focused and committed in disseminating information that the public needed to
know.
"This is also according to the principles 'People first, performance now'.
Our sincerity and commitment to the media as the conveyor of information to the
community can be enhanced and confirmed. It will also overcome whatever problems
and misunderstandings that might have cropped up previously," he said.
Ismail said the media centre would be handled by selected officers from the
Public Relations Branch, Bukit Aman who had the skills in communications and
public relations.
