Hanoi (VNA) - Hanoi will need at least 100 trillion VND to upgrade its road system when its boundary is expanded to include the neighbouring province of Ha Tay , and parts of Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh provinces.

The budget is estimated in Hanoi 's communication and transport planrecently approved by the Prime Minister.

The city plans to spend half of the sum on its three belt roads from now to2015 and 27 trillion VND on upgrading 30 main roads.

It estimates to inject 16 trillion VND in building new streets and 1.4trillion VND in upgrading the existing ones.

The city also plans to upgrade and expand 150 traffic junctions at the costof 5 trillion VND.

However, specialists predict a soar in the sum when the city carries outprojects in regard.

Hanoi presently has 955 km of roads, including inner streets andoutlying roads, 80 percent of which are less than 11 metres wide.

In the past five years, the capital city built an additional 5-10 km ofroads each year.

The city currently boasts 580 traffic junctions, of which 100 junctions arefacing traffic congestion everyday.

>From August 1, Hanoi will cover the entire neighbouring province of Ha Tay , the Me Linh district of Vinh Phuc province and four communes of LuongSon district of Hoa Binh province to have the total land area of 3,300 sq.
