TURKEY PLEASED WITH REPORT OF UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL ON ISRAELI ATTACK
ANKARA (A.A) - 24.09.2010 - Turkey announced Friday that it was pleased with the report of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council on the deadly Israeli attack on aid ships bound for Gaza that killed nine Turks on May 31.
In a written statement, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that the Israeli attack on aid ships had taken place on May 31 and that the UN Human Rights Council decided to establish a fact finding commission on June 2.
The MFA said that this commission paid a visit to Turkey between August 22 and 29.
The UN Human Rights Council report said that the Israeli blockade on Gaza was illegal and as such the Israeli attack on aid ships in international waters was illegal as well, the MFA stressed.
The report underlined that the Israeli interference was against human rights, the MFA said.
MFA's statement reminded that Turkey expected an apology and compensation from Israel for the families of those killed and wounded in the deadly Israeli attack on May 31.
