MAIPS FORGES COOPERATION WITH ISLAMIC ASSOCIATION OF CHINA

From Adnan Jahaya

BEIJING, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Cooperation between the northern state of Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maips) and the Islamic Association of China will give rise to opportunities to share experiences and efforts to develop the Muslim community.

The Crown Prince of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also
Maips president, said the Muslim community in China had its own unique
experiences in carrying out its daily routine, as with Muslims in Perlis.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who met with association leaders here Friday night, was
confident that the two-way partnership would benefit both parties.

He leads the Maips delegation in a week-long working visit to China starting
Sept 20, having arrived here from Xian on Friday.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin and association chairman Cheng Guan Yuan exchanged views
during an hour-long meeting at the association office.

Cheng, who has visited Malaysia twice, hoped the Malaysian delegation's visit
would enhance ties between Muslims of both countries.

Earlier, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin and the delegation performed Friday prayers at
the Niu-Jie Mosque and visited its museum.

The evening activities included a trip to a mini Muslim market, and the Dong Si
Mosque, which is among the most famous mosques here.
