'Tall' men join hands to launch charity work

Malappuram, Sep 24 (PTI) "Tall men of the world
unite, you may lend a helping hand to the poor and needy
without making tall claims", runs the motto of a fellowship
of six-foot-plus men, launched in south Indian state of
Kerala.

Titled as 'Tall Men Association', a gathering of people
with comparatively exceptional height has already enlisted
around 1500 members and under its units in various parts of
the state.
Though it was planned just as a simple gathering of
"vertically challenged" some time back, it has been turned
into an active charitable movement in due course, a
spokesperson for the association said.
"We don't want to make any tall claims. But our members
would strive to help the poor and needy in the society,"
he said.
An 'executive-force' of 300 selected volunteers of the
association is engaged in various charity-related activities.
Apart from providing financial aid to age-old people,
needy women and children, the 'Tall Men' volunteers also
distribute clothes and food articles in the old-age homes
across the state.
"All these programmes are conducted in cooperation with
state-run agencies like Janaseva Shishu Bhavan. We also
conduct various programmes also to raise funds. Our height is
always a thing of surprise for others," 'executive-force'
captain Shibu Thamboor said.
To help those found difficult to get bride or groom due to
their height, a marriage bureau is also working under the
Ernakulam-based headquarter of the outfit, they said. PTI
