UNDP, MACA TO CONDUCT ANTI-CORRUPTION TRAINING FOR OIC MEMBERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP) and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Academy (Maca) are collaborating to
conduct anti-corruption training programme among selected anti-corruption
agencies of the 57 Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) members.

In a statement here, the UNDP said the programme aimed to strengthen
knowledge and skills in corruption prevention, detection, investigation and
prosecution in these countries.

It added that the programmes also emphasised understanding on the causes and
effects of corruption and the negative consequences of corruption on national
human development prospects.

"Corruption is an impediment to development in all countries and building on
Maca's role, this initiative will bring together anti-corruption agencies in OIC
member states with the objective of strengthening their institutional capacities
to combat corruption," Resident Representative for UNDP and Resident Coordinator
of the United Nations in Malaysia, Kamal Malhotra said.

He said Maca's willingness to provide capacity-building training to OIC
anti-corruption officers indicated Malaysia's commitment to anti-corruption
initiatives.

Maca, which sees this initiative as expanding its role as a regional hub for
anti-corruption training, said the project was also a testimony to Malaysia's
strong support for the South-South cooperation.

Maca Director Samarajoo Manikam said the academy continuously looked
for more meaningful and multilaterally beneficial collaboration and cooperation
with like-minded organisations in designing and conducting effective
anti-corruption training.
