PERLIS FOOD ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN XIAN, CHINA
From Adnan Jahaya
XIAN (China), Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Various traditional food from Malaysia's
northern state of Perlis have been made available here, thanks to the food
promotion event organised by the Perlis state government.
Crown Prince of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail launched the
promotional event at the five-star Tiangyu Gloria Grand Hotel here Thursday
night.
Also present were the deputy director of the State Affairs Council for
Shaanxi Province, Ma Ke Er.
With the promotion, the hotel guests could now enjoy the scrumptious Malay
food from Perlis like "spicy prawn" and "mixed vegetables."
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also hoped that the promotion would lure the people of
China, especially here, to Perlis.
"Four women from Perlis, who are the participants of Perlis Islamic
Religious Council's (MAIPs) visit to China have been asked to teach chefs at the
hotel to cook four types of Perlis food to be served to the guests," he said.
The four women are MAIPs personnel Sharifah Azizah Syed Kechik, two Perlis
Islamic Religious Affairs Department personnel Sobariah Md Junid and Rohaizam
Abd Rahim, and an Istana Arau staff, Suhinim Sheriff.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also MAIPs president, said the food would be
made available at the hotel over the next two weeks.
The hotel's general manager, Tan Theam Loo, who is from Penang, Malaysia,
also expressed confidence that the food would be a major attraction among the
locals and foreign tourists here.
"After three years of working here, this is the first time we have a
Malaysian food promotion being held at the hotel. I'm also planning to introduce
'roti canai' (a kind of flat bread) and 'teh tarik, here," he told Bernama.
Teh tarik or "pulled tea" is made of black tea and condensed milk.
The mixture is poured back and forth repeatedly between two containers from
a height, giving it a thick frothy top.
This process cools the tea to drinking temperatures, and helps to thoroughly
mix the tea with the condensed milk.
Among the agenda in MAIPs' one-week visit to China, which began on Sept 20,
was to meet up with imams of several mosques in Shanghai and Xian.
