GIVE NEW DELHI A CHANCE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS

SEMPORNA (Sabah, Malaysia), Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Commonwealth Parliamentary
Association chairman Mohd Shafie Apdal has appealed to countries competing in
the New Delhi Commonwealth Games to allow the host country to rectify any of the
competition's shortcomings.

He said participating countries should help India resolve any problem that might
arise, leading up to the Oct 3-14 event, instead of just dishing out critcisms.

"The competition aims to strengthen relationships among Commonwealth countries
and the host country is doing its best to ensure all infrastructure capabilities
are increased.

"As with any other world-class sporting event such as the Olympics and World
Cup, I am sure there are negative talks and boycott, but the event will be
carried out successfuly when it's time," he told reporters here Saturday.

In relation to that, Shafie said there was no need for participating countries
and athletes to be hasty by taking themselves out of the competition as India
would be able to resolve any issue before the event was scheduled to begin.
