KASHMIR-OMAR 2LST
Welcoming the slew of steps announced by the Indian
government, senior leader of the ruling National Conference
party Mehboob Baig said, "Though rather late, it is a good
beginning. Huge confidence building measures one after another
are needed to create a conducive atmosphere for talks with all
sections of society to find a solution to Kashmir issue."
If these measures are implemented in a time-bound manner
the trust deficit that exists between the Kashmiri youth and
the rest of the country can be addressed, Baig said.
On the Indian government's decision to release students
detained for stone pelting and its request to the state
government to reopen all educational institutions, the NC
leader said, "Our college going boys are suffering. They have
already lost one academic year. We will be eager to do it and
cooperate with the Home Minister in doing everything suggested
by him." PTI MIJ
