MALAYSIAN PM, WIFE URGE M`SIAN STUDENTS ABROAD TO EXCEL IN THEIR STUDIES
NEW YORK, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun
Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, have advised Malaysian students
abroad to excel in the pursuit of knowledge so as to become useful human capital
in Malaysia's transformation into a high-income economy.
Najib said that to progress into a high-income nation, it was necessary for
Malaysia to have qualified and experienced citizens who had exemplary work
ethics and outstanding values and attitude.
"Study hard so that you get excellent results. Even if you have to study
into the wee hours of the night, do it, because this is a crucial time (of your
life).
"If you obtain excellent results, the chances of securing a better job are
brighter," he said when teleconferencing simultaneously with Malaysian students
at six locations in the United States.
The teleconferencing session, with students in Tennessee, Colorado, Chicago,
Los Angeles, Pennsylvania and Washington DC, was held during an Aidilfitri "open
house" with the prime minister and his wife at the Malaysian Permanent Mission
to the United Nations, here.
The students were evidently excited to chat with Najib and Rosmah.
Rosmah advised the students to study hard to show their appreciation of the
sacrifices made by their parents, and to acquire knowledge to help the
government develop Malaysia.
"As a mother, I understand the feelings of parents in Malaysia who think
about their children abroad when they have their food during festivals, such as
lemang and rendang during Aifilfitri," she said.
Also present at the event were Foreign Minister Anifah Aman,
Malaysian Ambassador to the United States Jamaludin Jarjis and Sabah
Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
Najib urged the students to join him in transforming Malaysia into a
developed nation, saying that “the future is indeed very bright”.
“All of you will join me, you should show the way that, as the future
leaders of Malaysia, we have the courage to rise and unite as 1Malaysia.
“Join me in transforming Malaysia, join me in this exciting journey, join me
in bringing Malaysia to the next height of success,” he said to the applause of
some 200 students at the "open house".
Najib is in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
where he is scheduled to deliver his maiden speech on Monday.
