EU TO ORGANISE RISK ASSESSMENT FORUM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The European Commission will organise an
EU-ASEAN Cooperation Forum on Risk Assessment here aimed at defining the overall
cooperation mechanism which could be developed between the European Union (EU)
and ASEAN members.

The three-day forum, which begins Tuesday, will gather about 40
participants from Asean dealing with risk assessment in the field of food
safety, it said in a statement Monday.

The forum will consist of plenary sessions and parallel working group
sessions besides providing the Asean Expert Working Group on Maximum Residue
Level (MRL) with an EU expert to establish robust, scientifically sound MRL's
that meets both Asean and EU requirements.

Workshops within this programme cover a range of other areas including EU
standards for fruits, vegetables and fishery products, legislation on labelling
and traceability, plant health and residue monitoring plans.
