KASHMIR-LD SITUATION 2LST
Although Kashmir witnessed a peaceful day Sunday, stone
pelting incidents were reported from several parts of the city
and Pampore area of Pulwama district this morning.
A group of youth had blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National
Highway near Samboora in Pampore, 16 kms from here, the
spokesman said.
Officials said security forces chased away the mob using
teargas shells and batons after the crowd pelted stones. The
law enforcing agencies also fired in the air to bring the
situation under control.
They said no one was injured in the incident. One person
was detained for questioning.
A youth, Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, was injured when security
personnel used force to disperse some miscreants who defied
curfew and resorted to heavy stone pelting at Jogilanker in
Ranawari area of downtown Srinagar, the spokesman said.
Ahanger, who was allegedly hit by the security forces on
the head, was admitted in SKIMS hospital at Soura.
The spokesman said, "Some elements backed by separatists
who are bent upon ruining the career of students tried to
create hurdles by resorting to stone-pelting on school buses
at Habbak, Machoo and Pindchi Mandi near Tatoo ground."
However, none was hurt in these incidents, he said.
Officials said windscreens of several vehicles were
damaged by the stone-pelting mobs, which were later chased
away by police.
The stone-pelting incidents to harass students were also
reported from Chattabal, Soura, New Thead, Noushehra,
Nowhatta, Saidakadal, Bagwanpora, Rangreth, Rawalpora, Nowgam
and Batamaloo areas of the city, the officials said.
The police spokesman said some miscreants stopped a car at
Wanabal on Srinagar-Rangreth road and fled with Rs 43,000 cash
and a mobile phone from a person accompanying his children to
school. PTI MIJ
