AMPLE TIME FOR INDUSTRIES TO SWITCH TO ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY BATTERIES

IPOH (Malaysia), Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The Perak government will give ample time for industry players to switch to environment-friendly batteries in a bid to implement its green technology policy in the state.

Perak is a northern state in Peninsular Malaysia.

State Industry, Investment, Entrepreneurs Development, ICT, Tourism and
Women Committee chairman Hamidah Osman said as such, the state government
would also ensure that supply of environment-friendly batteries, like lithium
polymer batteries, was sufficient before banning the use of lead-acid batteries,
which contain sulpuric acid.

"We have to be realistic. There is no use banning the use of lead-acid
batteries when the industry has no alternative product to turn to," she told
reporters here Wednesday.

To make the green technology policy a success, the state government had also
agreed to give provide 100ha of land in Greentech Park, Meru Raya here to
Syarikat ETI Tech (M) Sdn Bhd to produce environment-friendly batteries, she
added.
