UPIN IPIN THEME SONG BRINGS MESSAGE OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN MALAYSIA-INDONESIA

JAKARTA, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Padi, a popular band in Indonesia, Wednesday,
launched a single, titled "Sahabat Selamanya" (Forever Friendship), which
carries a message of friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia, as the theme
song for the Malaysian cartoon series, "Upin Ipin".

Burhanuddin Radzi, the managing director of Les Copaque Production Sdn Bhd,
the producer of the cartoon series, said Upin Ipin was produced not solely for
profits, but to maintain relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“The selection of Padi is a way of showing our appreciation to fans of Upin
Ipin in Indonesia,” he added.

He said the number of Upin Ipin fans in Indonesia could be seen from the
facebook of the two main cartoon characters where 80 per cent of their fans,
totalling about three million, were Indonesians.

The song "Sahabat Selamanya” is about the friendship between Upin Ipin and
their friends, including an Indonesian girl by the name of Susanti.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Indonesia-Malaysia Eminent Person Group,
Musni Umar, said he believed the Upin Ipin cartoon series could ease tension in
relations between the two countries.
