ACT AGAINST THOSE WHO INSULT ANY RELIGION - MINISTER
PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Action must be taken against
those who insult any religion in the country, as this could threaten the peace
and harmony enjoyed by Malaysia's multi-racial society, said Housing and Local
Government Minister Chor Chee Heung.
He said to ensure harmony, religious leaders needed to hold more discussions
through the Inter-Religious Committee which had been established.
The role of the committee, chaired by former Kota Baharu member of
parliament Ilani Isahak, is to promote mutual understanding and harmony
among the various religions.
"They (religious leaders) have to continue to hold discussions and at the
same time, increase awareness among the various communities. We cannot allow
people to affront other religions because it can hurt sensitivities," he said
after launching the 2010 Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
seminar, here Thursday.
He was earlier asked to comment on several video clips on YouTube of a
priest delivering talks which insulted Islam.
In a news report on Monday, Muslim Bloggers Alliance (MBA) president Zainol
Abideen said the priest, allegedly named Benjamin Stephen, had allegedly
conducted talks insulting Islam at a church in Kuching, Sarawak.
Chor urged Malaysians to be calm and
maintain the spirit of unity to ensure harmony in the country.
