REMAND ORDER ON FIVE SUSPECTS IN SOSILAWATI CASE EXTENDED TILL OCT 8

BANTING (Malaysia), Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Teluk Datok Magistrates' Court
here Friday extended the remand order for five suspects in the murder of
cosmetic millionaire Sosilawati Lawiya and disappearance of Indian businessman
Allal Kanthan Muthuraja to Oct 8.

Magistrate Hurman Hussain issued the order for extension of the remand under
Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to enable police to carry out
further investigations on the disappearance of Muthuraja.

The five suspects arrived at the court at 9.30am in a police van with tight
security and left after the extension of remand order was issued at 10.50am.

This is the fourth time the remand order on them was being extended.

They were first remanded on Sept 12, to facilitate in the investigation of
the alleged murders of Sosilawati and three others.

Muthuraja, 34, was reported missing after two Malaysian lawyers had received
him at the KL International Airport in Sepang, upon his arrival on Jan 18.

His wife, S. Usharani, 24, lodged a missing person report at the Banting
police station on Sept 8, and had also given her full statement on the case at
the Kuala Langat police headquarters.
