COMPANIES EYEING MEDINA AIRPORT EXPANSION PROJECT
DUBAI, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Multinational companies, including from Malaysia,
are bidding for a contract to expand Medina's Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz
International Airport.
Besides Malaysia, companies eyeing for the multibillion dollar project come
from various parts of the world -- United States, Canada, France, Spain, India,
Korea and Turkey.
Middle Eastern companies from the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon are also
keen on the airport expansion project which is expected to begin early next
year, according to the Arab News daily.
The newspaper said the scheme included new passenger terminals with air
bridges, accessories and parking areas for aircraft, including large Boeing
planes.
Saudi aviation authorities said the project would increase the airport's
capacity to 25 million passengers annually.
The expansion work is expected to reduce pressure on King Abdulaziz
International Airport in Jeddah, the main gateway for haj and umrah pilgrims.
