YOUTHS SHOWING CONCERN ON ISSUES PROOF OF SUCCESS OF GOVT POLICIES : M'SIAN DPM

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), Oct 4 (Bernama) -- The greater concern
shown by youths today on various issues and their outspokenness is proof of the
success of government policies on human capital development, said Muhyiddin
Yassin.

The Deputy Prime Minister said youths today were no longer a passive group
and were playing a more proactive role in taking the nation forward.

"Since several years back, with the rapid changes taking place in the world
and the national education process, Malaysian youths are beginning to show
greater concern towards national issues, not only those that involve them but
also issues that are more general, like socio-politics and the country's
socio-economic policies.

"This is very evident by their outspokenness at various forums, whether
locally or abroad. I deem this to be positive development and proof of the
success of government policies on human capital development," he said in closing
and presenting prizes to the winners of the Sabah-level Umno Deputy President's
Cup debate and essay competition here Monday.

Nevertheless, he reminded youths that moderation in everything was the key
to a balanced life, including in citizenry.

In the context of Sabah, Muhyiddin said, the vision of its earlier leaders
like Mustapha Harun, Fuad Stephens, G.S Sundang and others in founding Malaysia,
needed to be understood and appreciated by the younger generation.

Their farsightedness could act as a guide for the younger generation to
foster greater unity among the people who are made up of various ethnic groups
so as to ensure continued racial harmony and prosperity for the country, he
said.

Touching on today's event, Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president and
Education Minister, said it was good for leadership development of Youths.

Muhyiddin left for Kuala Lumpur after the function. He had arrived here
earlier today to open the World Tourism Conference and launch the 1Malaysia
Schools Milk Supply Programme.
