Laos, Singapore discuss tourist promotion ventures

VIENTIANE.OCT.04(KPL) - Lao and Singaporean tourist business bodies discussed possible tourism cooperative projects in their respective countries in Vientiane yesterday.
“It is the first time for the NATAS delegation to visit Laos and we hope that this meeting would contribute to the enhancement of the cooperation on tourism investment between Laos and Singapore,” said NATAS Chairman Robert Khoo C.H.
The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chairman of the Lao National Tourism Administration, Mr. Soukaseum Bhodisane. Singapore’s ambassador to Laos, Mr. Benjamin Jeyaraj William was also at this dialogue.
The meeting was attended by over 30 representatives of the Lao National Tourism Administration, tourist businesses and 20 of Singapore’s tourism body, National Association of Travel Agency Singapore (NATAS).
“An important aspect of the Lao Tourism Development Plan, 2011-2015, is the promotion of ecotourism which will enable tourists to enjoy the nature, culture and history of this country and thereby show that this new tourist destination offers unforgettable experiences to all visitors.” Mr. Soukaseum said.
For the year 2009, Laos had two million tourist arrivals, including 5,286 tourists from Singapore, an increase of 9 per cent compared to the 2008’s figures.
