SECOND FINANCE MINISTER WOOS MALAYSIAN EXPATS IN LONDON WITH 3.3 MLN JOBS
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Second Finance Minister Ahmad
Husni Hanadzlah wooed Malaysian expatriates in London with the government's transformation plan that will create about 3.3 million jobs.
"For those who are used to living in this global city of London. We will
create 3.3 million jobs, comprising expatriates and locals," he said at the
conference of Malysian Expatriate and Diaspora at the LimKokWing University in
London Wednesday.
The government will also begin to transform the Klang Valley Greater Area
into a cosmopolitan metropolis, he added.
Malaysian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Zakaria Sulong, delivered
the text of Ahmad Husni's speech, which was made available for Bernama.
Among others, the minister ensured Malaysian expats a better future back
home, including racial harmony
"Our coffeeshops, our sporting events, our concerts and our parades, all
races are present, being themselves, being Malaysians," Ahmad Husni said.
"The peace and prosperity, the civil society that we have created, was
brought to us by Malaysians that were wise and thoughtful, familiar with good
manners and sensitive to each other’s needs," he said.
However, stories of moderation do not sell and are deemed unsensational,
"this is the situation that we have today," he added.
Ahmad Husni also told the participants of the 19 entry point projects worth
RM151 billion (US$1=RM3.08) that will be launched soon to keep the momentum of
the country grow at a pace that is line with the government's target.
"And we will have more -- building an additional layer of infrastructure
that is expected, necessary and befitting a high income country. Included in
this list is the massive RM30 billion MRT (mass rapid transit) project," he
said.
In total, the government has announced the rollout of 131 entry point
projects valued at RM442 billion which will be take up to 2020.
The government also announced Malaysia's 12 National Key Economic Areas
recently.
"Suffice to say, these are the core economic competencies that we know we
possess and we want to build upon it, to drive the economy up the value chain,"
Ahmad Husni said.
The government will have these industries invest further in higher
percentage of intellectual capital, so as the country's goods and services are
able to command higher premiums in the global market while creating premium
employment in a bigger economic pie, he said.
