MERCHANT VESSEL RAMS INTO FISHING BOAT
LUMUT (Malaysia), Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Six fishermen are reported missing and
11 were saved when a merchant ship rammed into their boat in the Straits of
Melaka, about 10 nautical miles off Sabak Bernam, Selangor, Thursday.
A Marine Operations Force (MOF) spokesman here said two of the fishermen who
were saved had been admitted to the Sabak Bernam Hospital for treatment.
"The search and rescue operation for the missing fishermen is in progress,"
he added.
A media conference on the incident will be held at the Kampung Acheh GOF
base here later Thursday.
Sabak Bernam is a district of Selangor, Malaysia. It is situated to the
northwest of Selangor. It is bordered by the state of Perak to the north, Hulu
Selangor to the east, Kuala Selangor to the south, and the Straits of Malacca to
the west.
