TRADITIONAL HEALING TO ENJOY BRISK TRADE AT CWG
By P. Vijian
NEW DELHI, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Thousands of Indian yoga teachers, ayurveda
experts and naturopaths will be busy during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in
India.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), a
leading trade body, has predicted that the two-week games would provide
employment for at least 50,000 people in the industry.
In Delhi and in neighbouring states, over 150 ayurveda spa, herbal and yogic
centres have been set up to provide comfort to tourists and athletes during the
games, which could generate nearly RM600 million (US$1=RM3.08), according to
Assocham estimates.
On treatment menus are rejuvenative programmes and therapy, body
immunisation and longevity treatment, body sudation (Sweda Karma), panchakarma
treatment – all popular among tourists visiting India.
The domestic spa industry offers a mix of traditional ayurvedic, as well as
Chinese, Thai and Swedish healing techniques.
The chamber estimates that each foreigner visiting India during the
Commonwealth Games is likely to spend RM700 to RM2,500 for ayurvedic expertise
in various spa and herbal centres.
