SWIMMERS FALL ILL AT DELHI CWG

NEW DELHI, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Dozens of swimmers taking part in competitions
at the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) have fallen ill in recent days.

At least, 12 Australians and 10 English swimmers were reported to be sick,
mostly suffering from stomach ailments.

However, the Delhi CWG organising committee officials and the Commonwealth
Games Federation (CGF) said they had not received any report on such complaints
from the affected teams.

"We have ensured the water quality is tested and fit for athletes. We don't
have specific reports about the illness and the reasons. We are concerned if
athletes are not well and cannot perform to their best.

"We will address this (complaint) immediately...we need to deal with
urgency," CGF chief Mike Fennell told the media at a press conference Thursday
morning.

On Oct 5, Australian swimmer Robert Hurly returned home after suffering from
a stomach bug, following a meal at the games village.

He was a strong contender for a gold medal in the 1,500m freestyle.
