THAILAND ORGANISES MEDICAL ROAD SHOW IN GULF REGION

By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is currently
conducting a medical health and wellness road show in the Gulf region.

The United Arab Emirates' (UAE) edition, in Abu Dhabi on Monday, is the fifth --
after Muscat, Doha, Manama and Kuwait City -- of a series of seminars and
presentations organised within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) from Oct 4 to
11.

In a statement, TAT said the aim was to promote Thailand's expertise and
specialisation in providing cutting-edge health and medical care to residents of
the Gulf region.

The initiative sees representatives from Thailand's leading hospitals and
wellness centres visit the cities to meet directly with industry professionals,
medical travel consultants and coordinators, as well as regional government
representatives and other interested individuals.

Thailand currently holds 38 per cent of the world's market share of patients
travelling internationally for medical and wellness care, according to TAT.

This translates into over 920,000 travellers visiting the kingdom annually,
making it the number one destination for medical tourists.

The scope of procedures conducted in Thailand is wide, covering many medical
fields and areas of expertise, including joint replacement, open heart surgery,
cancer treatment, health check-ups, plastic surgery and dental care.

TAT said many would also visit Thailand to seek professional advice for a better
quality of life through Thailand's many alternative medical centres and
hospitals to help control and reduce the threat of diabetes, cholesterol,
obesity and blood pressure.
