ONLY THE BOLD CAN CUT IT IN THE 21ST CENTURY, SAYS MALAYSIAN PM

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Only those who are able, dare to compete and
are willing to make changes will be successful in this 21st century, said Najib
Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said this was because the century did not promise success
to anyone unless they were willing to work hard, master knowledge and skills and
show an extraordinary level of work ethics.

"The century has no place for the average, but uncommon people. We have to
overcome our competitors, only then we can emerge as winners in this 21st
century," he said at the Aidilfitri open house of Children's Welfare Assocation
(PEKAP) here Friday.

Also present was Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Sidek Hassan
and PEKAP president Sulaiman Ibrahim.

Najib said he wanted see the children of Pahang (his home state) rise up to
the challenge.

"I am proud to note that the members of Pekap (association for people of
Pahang in the federal capital) are looking after not only the interests of its
members but also of people of Pahang who are holding posts in government," he
said.

As such, Najib said he hoped they would continue doing so as the national
agenda as to where Malaysia was headed was very clear.

"There can be no doubts about this, it's whether we understand it or not, or
we choose not to understand. That's all.

"If we were to look at it closely, it cannot be denied, we have in place a
tranformation plan that means a lot to the nation," he said, referring the the
GTP (Government Transformation Programme which aims to make Malaysia a high
income nation by 2020).

He said with th support of all quarters, the journey would be much easier
especially in the the 21st century where change was very rapid.

Pahang is located at east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
