NATIONAL ASTRONAUT'S WEDDING RECEPTION STEEPED IN MALAY TRADITION
PUTRAJAYA, Oct 11 (Bernama)-- National astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor and Dr Halina Mohd Yunos' wedding reception at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here Sunday night was steeped in Malay tradition and carreid a warrior theme.
The ceremony began with Sheikh Muszaphar's parents Sheikh Mustapha
Sheikh Abdul Shukor and Zuraida Sheikh Ahmad sprinkling scented water on the
palms of the couple followed by a singing performance and a banquet.
The couple looked resplendent in matching white outfits that were specially
designed by local fashion expert, Bernard Chandran.
Later the couple cut the wedding cake that was shaped in the form of a Soyuz
spacecraft.
Some 1,000 people, VIPs, family members, close friend and 100 astronauts
from 35 countries attended the reception.
The ceremony was made all the merrier by the presence of Sultan Sharafuddin
Idris Shah of Selangor, Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, Negeri
Sembilan Ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and Crown Prince of Perlis, Tuanku
Syed Faizuddin Jamalullail.
Also present were Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor,
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Mukhriz Tun Mahathir and
Malaysia's ambassador to the United States Jamaluddin Jarjis.
