FORMER IGP CALLS ON M'SIANS TO HAVE GREATER LOVE FOR COUNTRY

BATU PAHAT (Malaysia), Oct 11 (Bernama)-- Former Inspector-General of
Police Musa Hassan has asked Malaysians to instill a greater love for their
country and not create problems among the different races or be influenced by
power-hungry politicians who were even prepared to sacrifice the existing peace
and harmony in society.

Of late, some political leaders, especially those in the Opposition, had
begun to stoke racist sentiments, including questioning the special rights of
the Malays which had already been enshrined in the Federal Constitution, he said
in his speech after receiving an honorary Ph.D (information management) from
Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) at its 10th convocation here.

Musa received a scroll from the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Sultan
Iskandar, who is also the Chancellor of UTHM.

The former police chief said these politicians should emulate the examples
of Prophet Muhammad and cited the Medina Treaty where the prophet had signed
with the Jews in Medina to ensure peace between the Jews and Muslims there as
the treaty also provided for the Jews to practise their own religion without
interference.
