M'SIA TO HOST CONFERENCE FOR DEVELOPING SPORT MANAGEMENT




KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will host the Asian Association
for Sport Management (AASM) Conference, an initiative to enhance regional
cooperation in developing sport management in Asia, at the Putra World Trade
Centre (PWTC) here starting Thursday.

The three-day conference, jointly organised by the Universiti Malaya (UM)
and Malaysian Association for Sport Management (Masma), will see 200 delegates
from 23 countries taking part.

UM's Faculty of Education head Prof Dr Saedah Siraj said a number of experts
in sport management like Prof Dr Packianathan Chelladurai and Prof Dr Ming Li
from the Ohio State University, United States and Prof Dr Karen Danylchuk from
the University of Western Ontario, Canada would be presenting papers during the
conference.

Malaysian Institute for Corporate Governance (MICG) president Megat
Najmuddin Megat Khas will also be presenting a paper at the conference.

Dr Saedah said the AASM 2010 would be the world platform for sport
management academics, researchers, practitioners and industrialists to meet and
exchange ideas and avant-garde knowledge in sports.


"It provides a forum for participants to present and discuss research
findings in sports management, enhancing knowledge and understanding of sports
management as well as promote and encourage participants to collaborate with
local and international sport academics and practitioners," she said.

Saedah said among working papers to be tabled include 'Managing Changes in
Sport Industry: Lessons for and from Asia' 'Forging Alliances: Bridging Asian
and Global Sport Best Practice,' 'Asian Experiences in Enhancing Sporting
Culture', and 'Issues and Challenges in Asian Sport Business.'

Saedah said AASM was founded on the premise to develop continental sport
management areas of discipline and hold similar principle to its counterparts in
Europe, North America and Oceania.
