Bangla PM blames Zia for train accident Anisur Rahman

BANGLA-HASINA

Dhaka, Oct 12 (PTI) Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina Tuesday accused BNP chief Khaleda Zia of staging the
train accident to save her corrupt sons and party leaders,
saying that the opposition leader needed "dead bodies to
create an issue".
"Why the BNP had arranged the rally (of Zia) just
beside the rail lines?" Hasina questioned while addressing the
founding anniversary of her ruling Awami League's workers
front in Dhaka.
Zia wanted the accident to take place to create an
anarchic situation to save her expatriate sons and party
leaders as they were facing a number of graft charges, she
said.
"She is now desperate to save her sons and former
ministers. For that she needs dead bodies to create an issue,"
Hasina said.
Her comments came as Zia visited soon after the train
accident scene and urged countrymen to get prepared for a
tough street campaign to "oust the present autocratic
government".
The accident occurred Monday as the activists met
at the railway track to join a political rally scheduled to be
addressed by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party
leader.
Zia had alleged that it was a conspiracy hatched to
foil her planned rally at the scene.
"It may cost more blood... take preparation for
removing the autocratic government," she told rally at the
accident scene Monday.
The opposition activists went on rampage as they set
on fire six wagons and looked for the train driver and guards
forcing the passengers to flee the carriages leaving behind
their baggages and valuables.
More than hundred passengers were injured when
opposition supporters threw stones at the train and vandalised
it before setting it on fire.
Talking to PTI, Communication minister Syed Abul
Hossain said Monday that he was surprised why the rally was
called on the railway track and particularly at a critical
juncture of the track knowing all the risks.
Meanwhile, police in an overnight drive detained 20
people after six cases were lodged accusing the opposition
activists for torching the train, attacking policemen and
looting valuables. PTI AR
