KUWAIT’S CHARITY ORGANISATION LAUNCHES SECOND AWARD WORTH RM248,000
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The second version of Kuwait’s Al-Sheikh
Fahad Al-Ahmed International Charity Award for Charity Works was launched in
Kuwait Tuesday, said the Kuwait Embassy here.
The US$80,000 (RM248,000) award is divided into five categories, with three
winners for each category, the embassy said in a press release here.
According to the release, President Emeritus for the Award, Sheikh Ahmed
Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah launched the award to enable the participation of
humanitarian institutions and charitable associations, researches and those
interested in charitable work.
The Humanitarian Society of Fahad Al-Ahmed adopted the award to support
charities, Islamic and humanitarian institutions, as well as workers in the
field of charity and humanitarian activities, who have done great charity works
and also to increase their efforts in such activities, he said.
Sheikh Ahmed Fahad is Kuwait’s deputy prime minister for economic affairs
and minister of state for development affairs, as well as minister of state for
housing affairs. The first award was launched in February last year.
The organisation urges institutions, charities and humanitarian
organisations, as well as researches, writers and photographers keen in
charitable work, to compete for the prize.
According to the organisation’s website, the award is in honour of Sheikh
Fahad Al-Ahmed, a martyr who was characterised by his courage, ambition,
creativity and love for others. Workers in the charity field should have such
characteristics to achieve their goals, the website said.
The award is a type of honour for good people, whether they are donors or
beneficiaries, individuals, institutions or associations.
The goal of the annual prize is:
* Recognition of distinguished corporations and individuals in the field
of benevolent acts;
* Appreciation of sponsors and involved personnel; and,
* Progression of studies and innovation in the field of benevolent acts.
The award is not limited to Kuwait but also includes Arab and Islamic
countries. It would be granted to institutions and individuals that have
offered “characterised charity and humanitarian works.”
