CORPORATE SECTOR SHOULD PROVIDE FREE CANCER CHECKS FOR EMPLOYEES, SAYS M'SIAN PM'S WIFE

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The corporate sector should consider
providing free examinations and routine breast cancer talks for its employees as
part of its health policy, said the prime minister's wife, Rosmah
Mansor.

Rosmah said such efforts could help the government’s endeavour to check the
prevalence of breast cancer among Malaysians.

"This pre-emptive measure will not only help increase the level of
understanding and awareness among the companies' employees, but will also save
them tens of thousands of ringgit in medical treatment or loss in productivity
due to medical issues," she said at the breast cancer awareness luncheon talk,
here, Thursday.

Rosmah also hoped that many more non-governmental organisations would come
forward to assist the government in providing services in the diagnosis and
treatment of breast cancer.

She said the level of ignorance about the disease, especially among people
in the rural areas, also called for more constructive efforts to reach out to
them on the disease.

"Although we may not yet know how to cure breast cancer totally, we have
a
wealth of knowledge on how to address and fight it. Therefore, the importance of
early diagnosis is essential and that appropriate treatment should reach the
public, consistently and effectively," she added.

Rosmah said Malaysians were lucky because the government, through the Health
Ministry, was aggressively promoting and educating the people on healthy
lifestyles as part of the breast cancer prevention awareness programme.

"So, I would like to call on all Malaysians to take the opportunity during
the month-long campaign to seek more knowledge and information on breast
cancer."
