SINGAPORE BILLIONAIRE STILL HOPEFUL OF ACQUIRING LIVERPOOL CLUB
By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Singapore billionaire Peter Lim is still
hopeful that Liverpool will consider his offer to buy the club.
"I welcome the decision of the court. The way is now clear for the Board of
Directors to sell the Club. I have delivered my offer to the Board and believe
that my ownership represents the best option for the future of the Club and it's
supporters, he told Bernama through e-mail.
He said that he hoped that when the Liverpool Board is reconstituted
Wednesday night, that it will not simply ratify a sale
to New England Sports Ventures (NESV) but will consider all the Offers before
them.
"I am asking the Board to run a full and fair process that enables all of
the Offers to be considered on their merits before the future of the Club is
decided," he added.
Lim has made a cash bid for the club of 320 million pounds which
tops NESV. Lim says he will also make a further 40 million pounds available for
manager Roy Hodgson to purchase players.
Today, the British High Court had ruled that the Royal Bank of Scotland’s
mandatory injunction against Liverpool’s current owners Tom Hicks and George
Gillett is granted.
The decision by Justice Floyd now paves the way for the prompt sale of the
Anfield club to New England Sports Ventures to proceed, although it could still
be pending by other court cases brought up by both sides.
Justice Floyd said during his ruling: “The owners do not have an absolute
right to veto a sale.”
The injunction means the board is reconstituted with Purslow and Ayre back
in place and Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton allowed to see through the
sale.
